My thoughts about Yellowface

 Hi Bookworms,

Today Yellowface written by R.F. Kuang.

This is a story of Juniper Hayward, a writer who so far wasn't massively successful and taking an advantage of her friend (successful writer) accidental death by editing the other girl manuscript and publishing it as her own.

Book is gripping from page one, we know what Juni is doing is morally wrong but somehow we sort of understand why she thinks book is more hers than Athena's. Juni lies more and more and is afraid of being discovered. Author is showing Juni's choices, her mental state, impact of what she does on her.

I can say truthfully that I kinda like Juni even if she actually hurting herself in long shot, but that is her choice, she is an adult person, who pretty well know she will have to deal with the consequences sooner or later.

Yellowface is great read and if you still didn't have a chance to read it, please do, it's worth it.

Seventhblade

 Hello Bookworms,

Today bit about Seventhblade by Tonia Laird.

I had a chance to read ARC of this book thanks to Netgalley. Book is planned for publishing in June this year.

Here we meet T'Rayles infamous warrior woman and half Ibbinas who's trying to find a murderer of her adopted son. Seventhblade is the city where she was growing up after her mother took her away from their tribe and where Broken Fangs - alliance her mother and her followers was founded.

Add to it greed, corruption, magical weapon and manipulative deity and we have interesting book which received strong 3.5 stars from me.

Author's writing style is bit rough in my opinion, that's why storytelling is not as flow-y as could be, but overall is not bad read.

Till next post :)

Gate to Kagoshima

 Hi Bookworms,

Today my late review for Netgalley advanced reader copy (ARC) of Gate to Kagoshima by Poppy Kuroki, which I supposed to read last year and I didn't find a time for.

What I can tell about this book?

Fast read, nicely written love story with time travelling and finding out about ones ancestors with last battle of samurai in background.
I read it in less than one day and enjoy it. Main character is called Isla, she's Scottish with Japanese ancestry (through her maternal grandfather), who is studying in Tokio University and during her time in Japan trying to find out more about her grandpa's family.
I do like author's writing style, easy to follow.

This book is first in Ancestor memories series, I do hope to read next book in the near future.

As far as I'm aware book two: Passage to Tokio is planned to be published in January next year.

That's all for today :)

Deborah Harkness and All Souls series

 Hi Bookworms,

I did wrote here before that All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness is between my faves. Bad me cause it's series, not trilogy since Time's Convert was published :) Plus I have no idea how I could missed announcement about book 5 The Black Bird Oracle.

A discovery of Witches I read multiply times and never change my star rating for it - 5*

Shadow of Night also read many times and rated 5*

The Book of Life - another multiply re-read and 5*

In these three books we follow a witch Diana Bishop and a vampire Matthew de Clairmont, we are meeting people and creatures (witches, vampires and daemons) connected to each and both of them.

Time's convert is a story of rebirth of Marcus as Matthew's son centuries ago and process of changing of Marcus' fiancee Phoebe from human into a vampire in modern world they all living now. We can see how Diana's and Matthew's twins changing in the story's background. I gave this one 5*.

The Black Bird Oracle is giving us Proctor side of Diana's family tree. More about Becca and Pip (half-witch, half-vampire children of Diana and Matthew) and more problems with Congregation. In my opinion solid book, gave it 4.5*

Author announced a title of book 6 - The Falcon and the Rose, but nothing about cover, publication date and all other info will be announced in due time. I have my ideas about who will be this book, but I'm keeping this for me as I can be wrong LOL!

Till next post!

Lockwood & co series part 2

 Hi Bookworms,

More then 2 weeks with no posts, bad girl me :)

Today book 3, 4 and 5 of the Lockwood & co series.

The Hollow Boy gave us another big case for Lockwood, Lucy and George and introduce to us new team member Holly Munro. One more teen in pack, one more girl, that can be handful :)

Read it to find out LOL!

This book finished with interesting cliffhanger and received 4* from me.

The Creeping Shadow - tough assignment from Penelope Fittes, lots about Lucy and her emotional state plus shocking findings near small village where our heroes having their other rather interesting case.

Another solid read and 4* from me.

The Empty Grave - Quill Kipps (rival of our friends from previous books) became new member of group and all five of them with the help of Skull and Flo (old Lockwood friend) are dealing with the biggest mystery on their plate to date. What they discovered is changing everything.

This book and previous one are dark ones. As previous books also this one received solid 4* from me.

Overall I can say/write - whole series is solid, beautifully written story with twists and turns and lots of emotions.

Did you read it, what's your thoughts about this series?
